RIDGEWOOD FARM - Home of RWF Morgans
|
|
|
"Never look down to test the ground before taking your next step. Only he who keeps his eye fixed on the far horizon will find his right road." - Dag Hammarsjold
At Ridgewood, we embrace this future-focused philosophy. Walk through the broodmare pastures and you'll find direct descendants of Morgans with pedigrees and prefixes that are prominent in the industry. We cross these good mares with conntemporary stallions, resulting in a consistent product that commands the approval of even the most discerning eye.
Below are the current distinctive distaff producing outstanding foals for Ridgewood. Click on the photos to see a larger version. |

1998 Bay Mare
The dam of three outstanding foals for Ann Hailey's Copper Beech Morgan Farm, including the Reserve Jr. Champion Mare CBMF Magic Moment, we regretted the day we sold Make Believe and we are thrilled beyond words to have her back. She is a full sister to the dam of Peggy & Phil Alderman's World Champion Bada Bing, as well as the winning mare Fancy Schmancy, both by AFF Leroy Brown. Of course, liking the success of this formula, we have booked Make Believe to Leroy Brown for a 2009 foal.

A recent acquisition and one we'd have made long ago if she were available, Belle has cooperated and given us two embryo transfer foals to arrive in 2008: the first to World Champion sire BEETHOVEN (Noble Flaire x MyBlue Heaven), and the second by DBA Street Talk.

The dam of the exciting show mares Minion Roseanne and Minion Mona Lisa and a full sister to Grand National Champion HVKWinter Rose, Noble Rose produced an incredible colt last year by Centerpiece that we've already sold, RWF Noble Peace, who went on to be crowned Reserve Grand Champion Stallion at the 2006 Circle J Regional and ended his year as the 2006 Grand National Reserve Champion Yearling Stallion. Of course, we bred her back to CENTERPIECE (Serenity Masterpiece x Phaeton Hill Harmony) for a 2007 repeat of this successful cross and on April 10th she presented us with a beautiful dark bay colt with a blaze and two hind socks, RWF Peaceful Warrior. In 2008, Rose will visit the court of the young champion, Queen's Romeo (Mizrahi x Queen's Mercy Me).

1993 Bay Mare
Dam of the World Champion In Hand and Performance Gelding ON A MISSION MEM, as well as the winning mare RIG Topic of Qua-lity, Sweet Dreams brings the Topic factor to Ridgewood: a proven sire of outstanding producing daughters. She is also the dam of the winning RIG Topic of Qua-lity (pictured at right). She just produced a stunning bay colt on April 2, 2007, sired by the up and coming young stallion, QUEEN'S JOHNNY ANGEL (Futurity French Command x HVK Heartbeat), who was recently crowned Grand Champion Stallion at the 2007 Diamond Jubilee Show for the second consecutive year. This outstanding colt is owned by The River's Edge, Bob Kellert & Mary Cockriel. And of course we breed her back to Johnny for 2008 and she is safe in foal.

We have always admired this grand mare, both in the show ring and then later as a premier producer for our good friend, Marilyn Esteb of Stone Pine Farm in Larkspur. We are especially thankful that Marilyn decided to share the wealth and allow us to acquire Dutchess!
Dutchess is the dam of Stone Pine My Girl, Stone Pine Elegance, Stone Pine Regalo and a very special 2006 filly by Ancan True Colors, Stone Pine Ariel.
CONGRATULATIONS to Kathy Gutting on her purchase of this outstanding producer! Dwayne Knowles of Broadmoor acted as agent on Kathy's behalf, and their plans are to breed her for a 2009 foal by Kathy's new stallion, UDM Goldmine. They're hoping for golden and we wish them the best of luck!

Out of a full sister to Noble Flaire, "Memo" is a full sister to the great road mare and World Champion JW Romantic Ways, and a maternal sister to World Champion JW That Special Flaire. Her 2006 filly by Futurity French Command is pictured at right. Memo is foal to MAINFRAME (Serenity Masterpiece x Serenity Memoryflite) for a 2008 foal, which we expect will be every bit as nice as its older sibling, Frosted Flake. Pictured at right is RWF Tres Jolie, her 2006 filly, and Frosted Flake, her 2005 filly who earned top ribbons at the 2006 & 2007 New England Regional Show. Memo will be bred to HVK Man About Town (Noble Flaire x HVK Radiance) in 2008.

We had 20/20 hindsight when we sold this mare shortly after she presented us with the ever-more-beautiful RWF Paganini, by WC sire Beethoven. So, we did what anyone who regretted a decision would do when possible--we bought her back! She is leased to Ken Martin for the 2007 breeding season and is confirmed in foal to his family's wonderful sire of World Champions, ALJAK'S DOUBLE WHAMMY (Century Free Spirit x Liberation Starbrite) for a 2008 Sweepstakes eligible foal. Beauty will be bred back to Whammy in 2008 fo an RWF 2009 foal.

The dam of the winning young stallion, Master Suite (by Suite After), as well as Colors of War (by War And Peace), also a consistent purveyor of blue ribbons in the performance classes, we are excited about the future foals this special mare will produce with the RWF prefix. 2004 Bay Mare
Recently acquired through the Copper Dragon Sale in March, this talented young mare is very atheltic and features very difficult breeding to find. We felt her greatest contribution would be in the breeding shed, and so we are detouring her show ring career and she is in foal to BEN'S RHAPSODY (Salem Command x Tedwin Title Song) for her first foal to arrive in 2008.

The result of a dramatically elegant and exotic sire taken to a beautiful, typey mare, we consider this result the epitome of a Morgan mare in balance and femininity and we are excited about her first foal planned for 2009, sired by Aljaks Double Whammy.

Our foundation traces back to Jay taking riding lessons on Morgans as a teen in Wisconsin. It was here that the process began and continues to this day. Horses like Sunflower Dina, Utmeid's Miss Elite, Utmeid's Tammy, Maplaire BenRea, Con's Contessa, Utmeid's Ben Dinamo and Townshend Vigilmeid were all a part of the early influence. The Gregersons and their Utmeid stable were the cornerstone upon which Ridgewood would build.
The expansion continued and thus began our long-term affiliation and friendship with Jackie Sweeney, Jane Steffenhagen and their Hylee Farm horses. Hylee's Justintime would come to Ridgewood and be the first matron to produce an RWF-prefix champion, RWF Kristina.
It was Jackie Sweeney that introduced Jay to prominent Illinois breeders and the Brunk influence took hold. Doris Ryan's Irish Lane Farm and her Morgans Irish Ecstasy, Irish On My, Beaming Beauty and Irish Ebony all played an important role in the Ridgewood experience. Horses such as FCF Elana and Bealoved held a place of prominence in the breeding practices of Ridgewood, with Elana being the dam of the first Ridgewood World Champion, RWF Victorious.
In the early 1990's, Julie entered the picture, as did our affiliation with the Tara Farm breeding program. Long admired for their consistent quality, horses such as Tara's Cherokee, Tara's Cotillion, Tara's Carolina, Tara's Sable, Nemour's LaBaronness, Tara's Antoinette, Gumtree Poppycock and Valiant Tony factored into our plans, the culmination of that effort being RWF Noelle (Tara's Cherokee x A Touch of Elegance by Wham Bam Command) - our 'millennium mare' - the 2000 World Champion Mare.
